Founded on 21 August 2012 as Resuttana San Lorenzo to represent the eponymous neighbourhood, part of the sixth municipality of Palermo, the club started from the Terza Categoria division, eventually climbing up all the amateur regional divisions of Sicily and finally reaching Eccellenza in 2022. In 2023, the club was renamed Athletic Club Palermo, with the aim to establish itself as the second-biggest club in the city of Palermo, also using black and pink as their official colours and being therefore nicknamed nerorosa (as opposed to Palermo being nicknamed "rosanero"). Although, his spell at the club lasted until December 2023, when he retired from playing football. The first season in the fifth tier is difficult for the nerorosa, but they managed to avoid relegation, even after a loss in the last matchday against league leaders Akragas.

In the 2024–25 season, the club started with ambitions to climb up the leagues, signing several professional players (many of which former Palermo players) for their upcoming Eccellenza Sicily campaign, such as Antonio Di Gaudio, Roberto Crivello and Antonio Mazzotta. On 6 April 2025, Athletic Club Palermo were promoted to Serie D after winning the Eccellenza title with one game in hand. The following season the club became a SSD, its new organizational chart on 16 July 2025, which includes the Sicilian footballer Antonino La G
